Abdominal pain

Abdominal pain in newly presenting or known cases of diabetes, especially T1DM, may be a feature of ketoacidosis and should prompt urinalysis or near patient blood testing for ketosis.

Abdominal pain in long standing diabetes has a wide differential diagnosis but in the acute situation, careful consideration should be given to the differential of ischaemic bowel.
