Weight loss

Weight loss without loss of appetite has very few causes. Diabetes is the leading cause of this symptom (the others are thyrotoxicosis and malabsorption). If the weight loss is quite brisk (e.g. one stone over a few weeks) this is highly suggestive of T1DM, slightly slower weight loss may be seen in LADA.

In contrast, the majority of patients with newly diagnosed T2DM will not experience any weight loss although very poorly controlled T2DM can cause weight loss.
